Buying Tickets & Using The Station
Using the Station
Patricroft is an unstaffed station which has a ticket vending machine (TVM). The machine only accepts credit and debit cards – you cannot use cash.
You must buy a ticket before you board the train. If you do not have a card to pay for your ticket, you can obtain a 'Promise to Pay Notice' from the machine - the machine prints a slip of paper with details of the journey that you are making, in advance of payment. This is so that you can confirm from which station you started your journey before paying.. You can then pay the guard on the train or at the barrier when you reach your destination.
Penalty Fares
You must have the correct ticket for your journey or a Promise to Pay Notice when you board the train. Otherwise you will have to pay a penalty fare of £20. If the TVM is not working, the guard will check whether this is the case and, if it is, you will not be charged a penalty fare.
